Wedgwood China has just won council approval to develop their Barlaston site with a £34 million investment. 100 more manufacturing jobs will return to the Stoke based pottery and a further 400 made more secure. The investment will not only cover the factory but also offices and the redevelopment of their Visitor Centre experience.

On a recent trip to Germany, David Cameron presented the German Chancellor Angela Merkel with a Denby Halo tea set. It would not have been easy for the Prime Minister to select something that is British made these days, but thankfully Denby is still making high quality pottery tableware at it’s factory in Derby.

Founded in 1867 Edinburgh Crystal was one of the kings in glass making. The Edinburgh crystal factory was based most recently in Penicuik, Midlothian in Scotland. The company was taken over by Waterford Crystal and the factory in Scotland was closed and the prestige product was made in the Waterford factory in Ireland, the rest outsourced in quality Crystal making
Since the Spode China business went into administration in November 2008 there has been speculation over the factory sites future. Production had ceased and the doors closed.
Portmeirion Potteries bought the Spode brand name in May 2009 but had no requirement for the manufacturing site as they are now either outsourcing Spode product or manufacturing it in their own

It’s 5 stores including one in London have been closed and 48 staff have been made redundant, the Administrator RSM Trenon is looking for a buyer.
This follows the demise of the other main wedding list provider Wrapit in 2008 leaving thousands of brides
Waterford Crystal glass group (WWRD) have agreed a strategic partnership with Waterford City Council to build a new manufacturing facility, with retail outlet and visitor centre in the heart of Waterford City.
The council will retain full ownership of the site with Waterford Crystal looking after all aspects of the operational side.

A year has passed since The Waterford Wedgwood went into Administration. The Group incorporates a number of the most famous brands in the China and Glass Industry.
Late February 2009 an American Private equity company KPS bought the brand names but alas not the factories which in the Crystal division are all now closed. The principal Brands involved are Waterford
