Moorcroft Ceramics at Havens

Ceramics are currently enjoying quite a comeback, as the Great British Pottery Throw Down catapults the craft into the public conscious and pottery becomes the hot new hobby.

A new multi-million pound Centre for Ceramic Art at the York Gallery hasn’t hurt either, with exhibitions by renowned ceramicists Ai Weiwei and Edmund de Waal firing up a newfound enthusiasm for the art among collectors.

One name that is synonymous with iconic ceramic design is Moorcroft. First launched in 1897, Moorcroft ceramics have enduring appeal and value and have loyal collectors the world over, with significant pieces featuring in the permanent collections of many national museums, including the V&A.

The distinctive Moorcroft design has been preserved down through the years, thanks in large part to the fact that they have had only 4 designers in nearly 100 years! Although Moorcroft is nothing if not forward-looking, keeping the design studio vibrant and contemporary with a young team whose average age is a mere 37. And it’s a policy that is paying off, as Moorcroft is selling more today than it did in its original heyday during the 1920s.

Here at Havens we are proud to be a longstanding retailer of Moorcroft and we have an extensive collection of Moorcroft ceramics available in store and online.  And we were absolutely delighted to have one of the Moorcroft artists at our recent Christmas Open Night, demonstrating her sensational skills!
