Sssh – what was that? Could it be the sound of 27 million satisfied viewers sighing in appreciation over the latest episode of The Great British Bake Off? Yes, it could! And this year, there’s even an Extra Slice, served up with a side order of sardonic wit by the marvellous Jo Brand. Let joy be unconfined!
Of course, it has been noted (not least by 2 pairs of the most gimlet blue eyes in TV history) that there has been many a baking gadget employed by this year’s contestants. From sponge cake guillotines to custom-made swiss roll plates – it’s been gadget-tastic. But the gadget that has dominated the Bake Off tent since day 1, is the marvellous KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer. You name it, the KitchenAid can do it – whisking, kneading, plain old mixing – it’s the right hand man of any baker.
And, as Mary herself would tell you, don’t stint on your tins. A good baking tin will never let you down – even if you do go on to score your swiss roll in several places (cue a disapproving look from at least one pair of those gimlet eyes). At Havens, we love Silverwood Quality Bakeware – like ourselves, they are a UK, family-run business and what they don’t know about a bun tin is not worth knowing!
