The Lladro factory is celebrating it’s 60th Anniversary this year and invited a number of retailers over to Valencia in Spain to help with the celebrations.
Three brothers Juan, Jose and Vicente started to experiment with clay in their home town of Valencia back in 1953 now their name is the foremost global name in quality porcelain figures and figurines. I have written more on the history on our Lladro brand page.
I was lucky enough to be invited to the celebrations and having visited the factory before I knew roughly what to expect. What I did not realise was just how many retailers from across the World would be invited and as Lladro always do they looked after us so well.
We had a chance to visit the factory and watch again for ourselves the craftsman ship of the porcelain workers sculpting, moulding, assembling, decorating and finishing each Lladro figurine with pride, passion and precision. Years of experience handed down through generations and whilst I have seen it all before I am still very much in awe of their skills.
There was a presentation from the key people responsible for the creation and development of the Lladro ranges. A true insight into their thinking, inspiration and strategy , this is normally closely guarded and it was refreshing that they should share this in confidence with their retail partners.
The showroom was beautifully laid out and featured most of the current Lladro collections including some very prestigious pieces including the Queen of The Nile. We also had a chance to view this years new additions to see how they might fit into our assortment.
On the final night we were invited to a reception and dinner hosted by Rosa and Angeles Lladro daughters of one of the founding brothers, Juan. What a magnificent event it was and we were delighted that they chose to celebrate their anniversary with us all.
Like all traditional Figurine businesses Lladro has faced huge challenges in recent years. Hopefully their perseverance, patience and investment will be rewarded with demand from the emerging economic power houses all showing a taste for the product taking them forward for the next 60 years. Havens will continue to back and support them as we have done for over 40 years.
Long Live Lladro!
