George, James or Harry – the ceramics industry holds its breath!

It’s not just bookies and newshounds who are waiting to pounce on the announcement of the new royal baby’s name – spare a thought for the blood pressure of the nation’s ceramics manufacturers!  With beautiful new lines of commemorative china ready to roll off the production line, ceramics makers up and down the country have their paintbrushes poised as they wait for that last, vital piece of information – the name …

British manufacturers including Royal Crown Derby, Aynsley and Royal Worcester have all designed special royal baby collections and international interest is already growing for these delightful pieces.  And there’s a new addition at Royal Crown Derby too – sitting alongside the limited edition commemorative ware is their new contemporary range, which includes a celebratory rocking horse, nursery box and photo frame.

As the orders pile up, let’s hope the manufacturers enjoy this brief lull before the frantic few weeks ahead while they work to mark this historic occasion.  In keeping with tradition, the name will first be revealed to the Queen before being publicly announced and we could be in for quite a wait … Prince Charles’ name wasn’t revealed until a month after his birth, with Prince William’s name being announced after a slightly less nail-biting  seven days.  But whether it’s odds-on favourites George, Harry or James, one thing is for sure the nation is ready and waiting to welcome this new future king!
