At 9.00pm Sunday 8th May fire took hold at the Jefferies Solicitors building in Hamlet Court Road, Westcliff -on-sea, Essex. At the incidents height there were over 100 fireman trying to bring the blaze under control and today, Monday 9th May there is still smouldering and a significant fire service presence.
The Jefferies offices are on the upper 3 floors of the building with a Londis supermarket, which we understand was recently vacated, on the ground floor.
Hamlet Court Road remains closed from the junction of Canewdon Road to the junction of Anerley Road and will remain so the whole of Monday 9th May at least.
Police allowed me to open the store and staff were able to enter via our back door so we have been able to process all the web orders and our couriers Interlink and Fedex have taken a circuitous route to collect the parcels for delivery tomorrow.
Unfortunately Havens is within the police safety cordon and therefore remains inaccessible to customers.
Hopefully the store will be able to open as normal tomorrow.
The sight of such an iconic building designed and built in very much the same 1930’s style as the Havens building looks like it has been destroyed. We just hope that they are able to shore up the beautiful facade and retain its character when repairing.
The emergency services as always have been superb and have certainly assisted us in going about our external internet business even if they cannot allow people into the store.
Our thoughts are with the partners and employees of Jefferies Solicitors a long standing local firm of Lawyers as they digest the enormity of what has happened, this will certainly put their business interruption plan to the test.
