Havens are delighted to be chosen as a finalist in the retail category of the Essex Countywide Business Awards, not least as this year we shall be celebrating 110 years of trading.

Still very much a family business based in Hamlet Court Road Westcliff-on-sea, the trading principles remain the same as those in 1901 – Provide good quality product, at the right price and support this in a good retail environment with great customer service.

The company has developed over the years from being mainly a China and Glass store to more of an Emporium selling Jewellery, Perfume and Cosmetics, Giftware, Housewares and Homewares.

Brands are also key to the success, with Chanel perfumes, Clarins, Swarovski Jewellery mixed with the more traditional offer of Dartington Glass, Waterford Crystal and Wedgwood China leading the way.

What is more, through the www.havens.co.uk website goods are now being despatched to all corners of the World expanding the Havens brand. The success of the website has just led to 2010/11 being a record year for the Havens group and long may that continue.

Being a finalist alongside so many other great local businesses is a true honour and we thank all those

who nominated and support us year in year out.

  1. Hi Nigel,

I’m Stinne from Copenhagen, Denmark, and I’m right now watching the TV programme about Suleman being undercover in Havens. I’m not in retail myself and also not a potential customer of your products. But I’m a lover of art, culture and colours – anything that soothes the eye, heart and soul. Now I’ll watch the rest of the progamme. I really hope you’ve turned the recession around in your own beautiful family shop, since then.

    Friendliest greetings,

    Stinne

    1. Hi Stinne,
Hope you enjoyed the Million Dollar Intern program, the general consensus is that it is weak and I would agree with that. What it should have been about was how Havens has developed and changed over our long history to survive and compete in this ever changing market. Instead it focussed on our retail company which sadly will never return to former glory.
I am pleased to say that our website, corporate business and more recently our Internet order fulfilment and customer service company for other websites business is performing well. I am also in regular contact with Suleman – who agrees that the program focussed on the wrong side rather than the positive side of our business.
      Many thanks for your interest,
      Kind regards,
      Nigel
