News on Waterford,Edinburgh and Stuart Crystal

There is still no positive news on what will be happening to future production and sourcing of Waterford Crystal, Edinburgh Crystal and Stuart Crystal. As previously stated KPS a US Private equity company bought the brands but not the factory in March 2009.

To date we have been receiving stock from the factory warehouses but certain lines are now getting very low. We are in regular contact with our Waterford Crystal representative and she herself still has no further information.

The stock that a number of our customers are still waiting for news on is Edinburgh Crystal Skye Wine Glasses, Goblets and Flute Champagne glasses, Edinburgh Crystal Tay Liqueur glasses and Small Whisky tumblers, Stuart Crystal Iona Wine glasses, Goblets and Flute Champagne glasses. We are optimistic that the Edinburgh product which is out sourced from European crystal factories will become available in the next few months, the Stuart Iona is an Airtwist Stem glass and a more difficult manufacturing process, that to date has been done at the Kilbarry factory in Waterford.

We will continue to pursue Waterford for further updates and will post news as and when we receive it.

For those customers that have committed to waiting we once again thank you for your patience

    1. Yes I am afraid that Edinburgh Iona has been discontinued and the chance sof finding any is remote. Sorry we cannot help you on this occasion.

    1. Ian, Not yet although I am told that Waterford should be announcing what their plans are for future brands and ranges production shortly.
It has only taken 6 months so far! So I am not holding my breath.
I am still optomistic that they will continue to source the Skye pattern as it was one of their best. I will keep on chasing. Sorry for the delay, Nigel Havens

  1. Can you tell me if there is any more news on the Edinburgh Crystal Skye range? We would dearly love to have completed our set … and after a few breakages… anyway – any news would be great! thanks again

    1. Dear Richard,
Trying to get accurate information from the Waterford Group which owns Edinburgh has been challenging to say the least. Unfortunately the new owners left the same management in place and they seem incapable of making decisions and then communicating them to us and the consumer.
I cannot at this stage tell you what is happening to Skye but I am hoping to have further information in mid February when we will see them at a trade show. As an alternate you can look at Royal Scot Westminster which is similar in shape. http://www.havens.co.uk/glassware/drinking-glasses/brand/royal-scot/range/westminster/
Watch this space for further updates.
      Many thanks for your enquiry,
      Regards,
      Nigel Havens

  2. Dear Nigel,

I too am very keen to get replacement wine glasses in Skye. Very much looking forward to hearing if you have joy at the trade fair. It’s so frustrating not being able to replace them! Thank you for all the news so far!

    Best wishes
    Jane

    1. Dear Jane,
It is looking increasingly like Waterford are discontinuing the Skye pattern. The latest news we have is that they are ditching the Edinburgh brand and keeping 4 patterns Tay, Orrin, Eclipse and Isla ongoing but under the Stuart brand! Does not make a lot of sense. The problem we have is that the information we keep getting is erratic and not always accurate. We will continue to apply pressure this end.
The nearest current alternate is the Royal Scot Westminster range http://www.havens.co.uk/glassware/drinking-glasses/brand/royal-scot/range/westminster/
Sorry I cannot be more help at the moment.
      Regards,
      Nigel

  3. Thank you Nigel, really appreciate all the information. It’s such a shame if they are going to discontinue Skye – it’s a lovely pattern.

    Best wishes
    Jane

  4. Hi, have some edinburgh Isla craystal and was hoping to add to it. Is it availble now under the stuart name?

    1. Dear John,
Isla will be available under the Stuart brand in Spring 2011. We will continue to update on our blogs and website the position concerning Edinburgh. Trying to get accurate information from the factory has not been easy.
We will load Isla on to our website as soon as there is stock available for us to buy.
      Many thanks for your enquiry,
      Regards,
      Nigel Havens

  5. I have 4 Stuart Iona large wine glasses and wanted to add some more but can’t find anywhere that might have some. Does anyone have any information on where I can get hold of a couple? Thanks

    1. Sarah, I think that you are going to find it difficult to find more stock of Stuart Iona. The pattern was discontinued by Stuart Crystal, now owned by Waterford, more than a year ago and all stocks at the factory have now been exhausted.
I do know a factory in Stourbridge that might be able to hand make some glasses that will match. The only issues are that they will be more expensive than the originals and because of the plain nature of the glass and the fact that they would be hand made means there are likely to be the odd very small bubbles in the glass.
If you want me to pursue this please let me know the height measurements of the glasses you are trying to match.
      Regards,
      Nigel Havens

    2. Hi Sarah, I was doing some reserch in listing my Stuart iona wine and water goblets on ebay today and i found your request. I have 6 large wine glasses and 6 water goblets never used some still have stickers on them. I purchsed them at Gearys Beverly Hills. If you are still interested please let me know, i can email you some pics. thanks

  6. I am also looking for Stuart Iona wine glasses (much used and loved wedding presents sadly 7 need replacing). I may be interested in commissioning some glasses to match, would you be able to put me in touch with the factory in Stourbridge? Any other ideas of where I could find some would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    James

    1. Dear James,
I am afraid that my source in Stourbridge is proving rather unreliable and it is looking increasingly unlikely that I will be able to get the Iona range of glasses.
It is a sad fact that the English crystal manufacturing industry is all but disappeared
The only airtwist stem glasses we currently have available is from Royal Scot Crystal but it is a different shape. It is not yet on our website but if yiou are interested I can send you images.
I will continue to look out for sources of supply and will come back to you if I find something suitable.
Sorry I cannot help you just now,
      Kind regards,
      Nigel Havens

  7. My Iona glasses are 22cm high and 8 cm diameter. I think they may have been classed as Claret glasses? I would be interested in a price probably for 2 or 3 if you could get that information, I would be grateful.

    1. Hi Sarah,
It sounds like the Goblet which was 225mm high. I have contacted the factory and I am just awaiting a reply on price and availability.
I will be in touch as soon as I have an answer.
      Regards,
      Nigel

  8. Hi,
I am also looking for Iona! I need one Water Goblet after a Christmas accident. Please can you let me know if you get any?
    Many thanks,
    Sarah

    1. Dear Sarah,
Still having trouble trying to source Iona design. The crystal factory I was using in Stourbridge is struggling with the moulds.
I will keep pursuing and let you know of any positive outcome.
      Regards,
      Nigel Havens

  9. I am also looking for some Iona large wine (21cm) and sherry (17cm) glasses. Ideally I would like four of each and I would be very interested to hear if you are able to source these from the Stourbridge factory.

    1. Dear Alison,
I am still trying to source. I have emailed my contact in stourbridge and they keep saying they will get back to me but as yet I have not received any further information.
I will keep trying and let everyone know the outcome. If I am able to get the glasses I will then put them up for sale on the website.
      Thanks for your enquiry,
      Kind regards,

  10. I have just been reading the comments above with regard to the Iona Goblet. Am I right is thinking other entities will carry on relicating the design as I too need some replacements or is your Stourbridge source the only chance?

  11. Hello – Any more news on whether there’s any hope for Stuart Crystal Iona replacements? I’m looking for some of the large wine glass size (209mm high). Many thanks

    1. Dear Rebecca,
I am afraid that the Iona pattern has been discontinued, I have been unable to source from a UK factory that were looking to make some, but have found that the moulds they had were unusable.
Sorry to all Stuart Iona collectors but all options have now been exhausted.
Royal Scot do an airtwist stem plain wine glass but only on a straight sided bowl.
I can email images if you are interested,
      Kind regards,
      Nigel Havens

  12. Reading the comments above regarding Edinburgh crystal and it’s so disappointing!
We put Edinburgh crystal on our wedding list as it was a strong brand that had been around for years and so we would have a good chance of replacing any lost!
Do you have any ideas of possible replacements for the eclipse design? I’m particuarly looking for red wine goblets and champagne flutes. Thank you so much for your assistance in this matter.

    Regards

    Emma

    1. Dear Emma,
I agree with you it is disappointing.
The nearest pattern to Eclipse is the Rockingham Crystal Simplicity range although we are short on stock at the moment as there has been suppply issues over the last few months.
      http://www.havens.co.uk/glassware/drinking-glasses/brand/rockingham/range/simplicity/
Alternatively is the Royal Scot Saturn pattern similar concept rouder bowl shape.

Please let me know if I can help you with any further information.

Hopefully there may be some interest.
      Kind regards,
      Nigel Havens

  14. Rebecca, if they are still available, I would be interested in the large wine glasses and the champagne flutes. Are the wine glasses 7cm diameter and 21 cms tall?
    Regards,
    Sally

  15. Hi Cathy,

I have emailed you but maybe the email went to your junk folder. Do please let me know if you are still interested in the glasses.

    Kind regards,

    Rebecca

  16. Hi Rebecca,

If you still have them available, I’d be interested in 6 small wine glasses and the 7 champagne flutes – please could you give me a price?

    Alison Hutchison

  19. Dear Sally, Alison and others,

Huge apologies for not replying to your requests sooner – I thought I would receive and email if anyone replied to my post, but that didn’t happen and I only looked on the website last night by chance.

Anyway, I still have most of the glasses left and they are all in perfect condition. They are £60 each plus postage. The only other place that has any available at all is on Discontinued designs where they are £72 each plus postage.

    I still have the following:

12 large wine glasses (20.9cm tall)
12 small wine glasses (19.2cm tall)
2 champagne flutes (I am waiting for payment for 5 others, but if this falls through they will also be available)

I can be contacted on 01264 737649 or bexmilton (at) hotmail.com (obviously my email is the usual format, just trying to avoid spammers!).

Please feel free to contact me directly if you are still interested in purchasing the glasses.

Thank you to Nigel for allowing us all to make contact on his website!

    Kind regards,

    Rebecca
