We have just heard that the crystal glass factory that makes the Rockingham Crystal Simplicity and Rockingham Winchester crystal ranges has gone into administration and the factory Slov Glass in Slovakia will not be producing glass for the foreseeable future. The key reason for this is that the biggest creditor is the gas company and they have simply switched off the supply!
It has to be said they are not the only European Crystal glass factory to hit trouble. The majority of crystal factories are either on the brink or have been rescued through government support.
We are hoping that another factory can be found to produce the Simplicity and Winchester ranges. The worrying issue is that the moulds and equipment to salvage production are in the Slov Glass factory under the auspices of the Administrator so we are not expecting anything soon.
Let us just hope that the Slovakian government will try to help out again, though I suspect this may well be a long shot as they have already had their fingers burnt in the crystal business.
The alternative options, who I would unreservedly recommend, are our close friends at Royal Scot Crystal. There is not a lot Malcolm Sergent and his family do not know about the crystal industry and I know that they have bought forward good stocks of crystal in anticipation of the impending turmoil in the manufacturing supply chain.
We will keep you posted on the developments and hopefully the resumption of supply of the Rockingham Crystal ranges.
